Artist Statement
As an Artist and Animator, my main ambition is to write, draw and animate stories. This comes in many forms, illustration, animation, storyboarding, comic book writing, the list goes on. Most of my characters and art have a strong general appeal towards the masculine ego, with subjects like dashing heroes, beautiful women, and sense of adventure into the unknown. I also have a penchant to do other subjects like familiar, popular characters, as it both helps me to refine my own personal style, understanding how other artists think and draw, and because someday I too would like to have my characters be as recognizable and well known to the everyone, because the only way for characters to be alive is in a person's memory.
About the Artist
Matthew Ford is a Florida-Born Artist and animator. Moving from Florida to Arizona at age Ten offered a new view of the world and opened many new horizons. It was here that Matthew's love of art and animation started to blossom, trying anyway he could to make moving picture, from something as simple as a flipbook, to an eventual interest in digital animation in the early days of computer technology. At age 16, Matthew found interest in 3D animation, after tinkering in a modeling and animation program. This with a combined interest in things like puppetry, became an almost perfect medium for him to work in. After a few years of self-teaching, he produced his First ever animated short, "Kai Kohola." Primitive by today's standards of CGI, but a good stepping stone towards better things. Matthew spent 2 years serving his church in Hiroshima, Japan, which not only benefitted him with learning the language, but further opening his eyes to new ideas, techniques and ways of thinking as an artist and animator, and letting some of the culture influence his, giving his current style an almost pseudo-Japanimation look. He is currently a college student, studying animation, and since upgrading to better software, like Maya, has completed a second film, "Escapee", which was accepted to the Hiroshima International Animation Festival, and is currently working on his third: "Bakemono High". He is head of Dustbunny Pictures, the business name under which he works to produce films and art, for a variety of reasons, both personal and professional.
